September 14, 2013 Non-terrorist Near Beheading of Firefighter in Toronto Lebanese Cafe At about 1 a.m. Nabil Huruy, 23, of Toronto repeatedly stabbed in the head and nearly beheaded a firefighter Dominic Parker at a Lebanese cafe in an "unprovoked" attack with no apparent motive. The victim died two days later .Huruy was a frequent visitor to the cafe, but this day he carried two concealed steak knives and wore a blue latex glove on his right hand. Parker had ridden his bike to the cafe and was sitting when he was attacked in an apparent ambush. Counter-terrorist blogs believe the attackers mideastern ethnicity and Islamic religion may help explain a possible motive as it might have been as spontaneous terrorist attack of a Jihadist against a "Kafir"non-believer. Huruy was charged with first-degree murder, but not terrorism. In May, 2014, chose to plead guilty to first-degree murder, but Superior Court Justice Ian Nordheimer did not accept the plea and ordered that a mental health assessment of Huruy be conducted before a conviction is entered.
“[At the institution] I thought I got to do my job and guard my own, to prove I’m not mentally ill, and that I was going through something that I let build and bottled up,” he said. Not mentally ill, just “going through something?” What? Islamic radicalization? In court, Huruy wore traditional Islamic garb. He plead guilty.
On August, 2015, pleaded not guilty but is seeking a finding of not criminally responsible due to mental disorder. Later, his guilty plea was rescinded.

Huruy’s guilty plea was officially rescinded Monday and the accused is seeking a finding of not criminally responsible due to mental disorder.
Throughout Monday’s hearing, Huruy interrupted proceedings, shouting out to witnesses, glowering at the victim’s family and snapping at his weeping mother, “You don’t care about me.” He called one witness “a liar” and mocked his lawyer Bob Richardson, “Easy there tiger,” when the lawyer reminded a witness that his client “had a last name and wasn’t just a suspect.”
“I was in love,” Huruy shouted at witness Maymona Abdi, who testified she engaged him in conversation and witnessed the shocking attack before fleeing in a panic.
Huruy, who carried two concealed steak knives and wore a blue latex glove on his right hand, had never met Parker before encountering him at the Rotana Cafe at 1530 Danforth Ave., near Coxwell, Crown attorney Daniel Brandes said in reading an agreed statement at the judge-alone trial.
He sat down with Parker and two women, who were playing blackjack. Huruy agreed to play “but seemed unresponsive to the game,” Brandes said.
With no words exchanged between Huruy and Parker, Huruy stood up and straddled the victim. He pulled out a knife and plunged it forcefully into Parker’s head, inflicting a fatal brain injury.

“I thought he was drunk or maybe high that night, but there was no smell of alcohol or drugs on him,” he said.

Who was Dominic Parker?
He was a Canadian fireman, 45 years old with a wife and family.
He was fatally stabbed as he sipped a cup of tea at a Toronto café, the Rotana, on 15th September, 2013.
He died in hospital two days after the attack.
The man on trial for his murder is Nabil Huruy, aged 23.
The café where the attack took place is known as a Hookah lounge. These establishments are often owned and operated by Muslims.
